Landside Terminal Expansion

The largest of all projects at the Orlando International Airport, the landside terminal expansion project consists of doubling the size of the existing terminal space to support air traffic directed to the fourth airside which was constructed concurrently with this project. We were responsible for implementing and supervising the structural inspection plan and materials testing program for the project. Midway through the contract, we were selected to provide these services for the six-story hotel which is being constructed on top of the terminal project. Total cost of construction for this project to-date is $135 million.

Structural Parking Facilities A & B

These two parking structures were constructed on each side of the main terminal building during 1987 and 1988. Each six-story structure consists of cast-in-place post-tensioned concrete and is capable of parking a total of seven thousand vehicles. Construction cost for the project totaled $52 million.

Landside Piling Installation

Our personnel monitored the installation of the 3,000 precast concrete piles which serve as foundation support for the terminal expansion. The piles averaged one hundred feet in length. Total construction value of the piling installation contract was $3.5 million.

Automated Guideway Transit System Expansion

To accommodate increased passenger traffic between the landside terminal complex and the airside departure gates, a third rail car was required to be added to the existing tram system. Our personnel provided threshold inspection and construction materials testing services for the expansion of the system. Construction consisted mainly of a structural steel space frame
assembly tied to the existing terminal complex. Extensive non-destructive testing was required on the structural steel frame for the assembly portion of the project. Construction costs totaled $5.6 million.
